Currently, players in Helldivers 2 have to deal with either insects or attacking robots. These have different enemy types, such as the strong acid-spewer. On Reddit, a player discovered a small hint in the game that hints at a new faction.
In a small news item, the sentence: Rumors of Illuminate Sightings are Work of Dissident
is inserted. The community sees this as a hint at a possible return of a well-known enemy type: the Illuminates.
An Ancient Space Civilization
The Illuminates were a faction from the first Helldivers part. They are a highly advanced civilization that has existed in the universe for millennia. They are described in the Helldivers Wiki as originally aquatic beings dressed in ceremonial robes
. The Illuminates resemble beings from the Cthulhu mythos.

What about rebellious humans? We already have missions to intercept the rebels’ broadcasts.
Zombie-like enemies would fit well with the film references in the game, as the robots also remind one of movies like Terminator. Rebels would also fit into the game as they would represent a perfect enemy faction for the directed democracy

New enemy types could also mean new planets and mission types. Given the current success of the game, there is nothing opposing such updates.
