Helldivers 2 is preparing for the weekend and is now allowing more players onto the servers, but the developers still anticipate issues.
What is the situation with the servers?
- Helldivers 2 has been available on Steam and PS5 for 2 weeks and has since become a real surprise success, with regularly over 400,000 concurrent players on Steam.
- Almost every evening, the servers of the co-op shooter struggle, as many players want to relax and play after a long workday.
- To keep the servers stable, the developers on February 18 restricted the maximum number of players to about 450,000. Those who try to log in to Helldivers 2 after reaching the player maximum will be greeted with the message “Login limit reached.”
- As the CEO of Arrowhead, the studio behind Helldivers 2, explained, the server issue is not “a question of money”, but of work. The team is simply reaching their limits.
How much has the server capacity been increased? For the upcoming weekend, Arrowhead has raised the cap from 450,000 to 700,000 players. Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt announced this on X.com (formerly known as Twitter).
With the increase of the login limit, the developers aim to make waiting times more pleasant.
Developers anticipate problems over the weekend
Why are problems expected? As Pilestedt writes on X.com, the development studio expects that the new login limit of 700,000 players could be reached over the weekend. In that case, players would have to expect a queue again.
Just last weekend, Helldivers 2 reached a new record with over 333,000 active players on Steam, which has been surpassed almost daily throughout the week. It is therefore likely that player numbers will continue to rise over the weekend – especially since they are no longer capped at 450,000.
