Helldivers 2 forgoes PvP
Who is it about? Johan Pilestedt is the CEO and Game Director at Arrowhead, the Swedish development studio behind Helldivers 2.
What does the CEO say about PvP? On X.com (formerly Twitter), Pilestedt commented on a post that the studio is doing its best to make Helldivers 2 a successful game that lasts a long time. A user on the social network then said that Helldivers 2 needs PvP to “steal” Call of Duty players.
Pilestedt explained that Arrowhead will not add a PvP mode to Helldivers 2 to reduce toxic elements. Instead, the studio wants to create an environment that is “supportive and fun. “
The user then speculated that the developers are afraid to add PvP. But Pilestedt made it clear: “We are not afraid. We just don’t want the toxicity that comes with it. We make games for people who just want to have a challenging time with friends, but in a PvE environment. If you want PvP, I recommend Tarkov [Note: Escape from Tarkov].”
With Escape from Tarkov, Pilestedt recommends an extraction shooter that goes in a quite different direction than Helldivers 2.
While Tarkov is also known to be a very challenging game, it focuses on realistic gameplay, a first-person perspective, and PvP, unlike the co-op shooter.
