In Helldivers 2, a man manages the galactic campaign. However, after the game now has many more players than expected, the almighty Joel is getting help to take care of you even better.
Who is the almighty developer? The developer’s name is Joel, and he is the Game Master who manages the galactic campaign in Helldivers 2. The galactic campaign is the meta-game of the title, where players must defend the planets of the galaxy from Terminites and robots.
Joel manages the opposing side and has some tricks up his sleeve. Like a Game Master in a tabletop role-playing game, Joel plays with the players rather than directly against you. Still, he is responsible for adjusting the difficulty level. So he is both your friend and your enemy and opponent.
The high expectations of the players have resulted in Joel having to work a lot lately to meet them.

Joel now has a whole team to take care of you
Why did Joel need a team? The success of Helldivers 2 means much more work for the developers. Even for the master of the galactic campaign, the player numbers are a significant challenge.
To keep the galactic campaign exciting, regular adjustments must be made. A few bugs here, a few robots there, and a little less pressure on the planets because players are now going to sleep – but it’s not that simple.
The campaign is the heart of the game and drives the player base, so the expectations of the players must be met.
That is why we had to expand the Game Master (GM) team. He is just one guy, and he simply hasn’t been sleeping. I remember on launch weekend, he messaged me at 4 AM because we were the only ones still awake.

What does Joel’s team look like now? While Joel will likely continue to be the almighty Game Master, Community Manager Baskinator reveals that Joel has a team and also many advisors. “He doesn’t want to work in a vacuum,” Baskinator said literally.
With the reinforcement of the team, the tug-of-war over the control of the galaxy might now become even more difficult for humanity because adjustments to the players’ strategies can be made even more quickly. There probably won’t be quick progress by shifting focus to another planet while the Game Master is not paying attention in the future.
On the long list of tasks is likely also to explain more to the players about the role of the Game Master and to give him some kind of blog of his own so he can communicate with the players.
