What is Hell Let Loose? This new 50vs50 multiplayer shooter using the Unreal Engine 4 was launched in October 2017 with a Kickstarter goal of $100,000. The funding campaign for Hell Let Loose was extraordinarily successful, raising more than double through crowdfunding.
Realistic World War Atmosphere
What makes Hell Let Loose an anti-Battlefield? Hell Let Loose may seem like a typical World War shooter like Battlefield 5 or Call of Duty WWII at first glance, but it aims to provide radically different gameplay. Instead of quickly hopping around and staging the war as a thrilling action spectacle, Hell Let Loose focuses on hard realism.
What makes Hell Let Loose so realistic? The battlefield is dark, gray, and muddy. Weapons are tailored for realism, behave like their historical counterparts, and a hit from a carbine or machine gun instantly takes down the opponent. Additionally, aiming well is crucial, and kills are especially achieved when players, as seen in the video, ambush the enemy during retreats or flanking maneuvers. Therefore, running in recklessly and firing from the hip is evidently less effective here.
This is how gameplay differs from Battlefield and others: Gameplay is more tactical and slow. The high speed and ease of movement found in Battlefield or Call of Duty is seemingly absent here. Instead, your heavily laden soldiers struggle through the hail of bullets on devastated battlefields. This gives the game a palpable weight and “grittiness” that fits the dark war scenario extremely well. Players therefore carefully advance on the battlefield and engage in fierce battles for every inch of ground.
An example of the tactical gameplay: When you finally capture a sector after bloody battles, the front line shifts, and you receive resources that will assist you in the ongoing war. This way, you get better respawn options and useful war equipment. There will also be various vehicles and aircraft from the era. So look forward to Tiger tanks.
