In the arena of Hearthstone gold cards have been taboo so far. Whether that will change soon is revealed by Ben Brode in our interview.
In the past few days, we had the opportunity to conduct an extensive interview with Ben Brode, the Game Director of Hearthstone.
Gold cards are considered one of the “prestige” options in Hearthstone that allow for a bit of bragging. They are just as strong as regular cards but have elaborately designed graphical effects. You receive them either by playing a class for a long time, having great luck when opening packs, or simply spending large amounts of Arcane Dust to craft the cards directly.
However, so far golden cards can only be used in “Constructed” – the ranked and unranked game modes of Hearthstone. Fans of the Arena game mode, which is the biggest draw for part of the player base, are currently left out.
Our question was: Why are cards not golden in deck building in the arena that you own as “golden” in your own collection? Is there a specific reason why there are no golden cards in the arena?
Ben Brode gave us a clear answer:
“We believe that it would be a fantastic feature and are already working on it.”
So it is only a matter of time before the arena is also visited by “completely golden” decks – especially professional arena players like the streamer Kripparian are likely to enjoy it.
Generally, the developers of Hearthstone seem to be focusing more on the arena mode lately. Just recently, they published a “Top 100” list of the best arena players and announced that they will be adding more spells to the arena in the future. This aims to shed the reputation of “Curvestone”, where the player simply wins who has the minion with matching mana costs in hand for every turn.
