With a noticeable delay, Christmas is now celebrated in Hearthstone and a fancy card back is introduced.
In Hearthstone, there is a special variation of the known game modes each week, the tavern brawl or “Tavern Brawl”. Here, the rules of the card game are turned upside down week after week or complemented with exciting components.
Fans might scratch their eyes in disbelief at the current Hearthstone tavern brawl, as Father Winter makes his return – significantly delayed on February 1, 2017.
All players create their own deck from their collection and compete with it. Each round, Father Winter drops a present, as long as the active player currently has none. This minion (0/4) has a deathrattle effect, which grants the active player a present. The present counts as a spell and allows you to discover a card from the class of the player from whom the present comes. The twist: The cost of this card is then reduced by 5! So the goal is to destroy as many presents as possible in your own turn.
The reason for the late appearance of the tavern brawl is complaints from the community. After Blizzard first released this tavern brawl in 2015, most fans hoped it would return in 2016 – but that was not the case. To meet the needs of the players, Blizzard is now swiftly introducing the mode.
Those who haven’t tackled the current tavern brawl in the past will be gifted a fancy card back. If you already have the card back because you acquired it in 2015, you will instead receive a classic card pack.
