The second largest Hearthstone streamer on Twitch is Jeremy “Disguised Toast” Wang. He has now surprisingly switched to Facebook Gaming. One of the new advantages: He can silence trolls more easily.
Who is Disguised Toast? Jeremy Wang has been active on Twitch and YouTube with his current channels since April 2015. In his early days as a content creator, he always appeared with a toast mask as a head. He hid behind this mask:
- The streamer made a name for himself in Hearthstone by finding clever and amusing combinations to win in particularly spectacular or strange ways.
- During the hype wave around “Teamfight Tactics”, Disguised Toast was a pioneer and shined in the new game.
- He is a tactics fox and tinkerer. Toast tries to find creative solutions to entertain his fans.
- He comes across as approachable and transparent in his interactions with his viewers: He has, for example, urged people not to donate to him anymore, but to support small streamers instead.
On Twitch, Disguised Toast was recently the second largest streamer for Hearthstone in terms of followers. Only Kripparrian was bigger. However, Toast’s rise on Twitch has now come to an end, as he is switching to Facebook.
Toast is Facebook’s first major US signing
Why is Disguised Toast switching now? He says he received offers from all the major streaming platforms. But he chose Facebook because it is the platform with the most potential.
As CNN reports, Wong will receive a “undisclosed amount of money” for the switch and will stream exclusively on Facebook. However, he can still show videos on YouTube.
He is the first major English-speaking streamer to switch to Facebook.
Toast himself says Facebook gave him a $20,000 budget to shoot a flashy spot about his switch. With such a video clip, shroud had previously staged his departure from Twitch.
However, Toast donated his production budget of $20,000 to a children’s hospital. He says his fans are not interested in such promotional clips anyway.
Real name requirement at Facebook helps against “mean comments”
This is the advantage of Facebook: In a stream, Toast is asked how Facebook is. He then says: One thing is great. Thanks to the real-name requirement, he can silence people who cause trouble:
“Someone was mean to me and I said: That’s a stupid comment … Bob Taylor. I read out his full name and he hasn’t said any crap since.”
Disguised Toast in the stream
Facebook strikes back
This is what it’s all about: Shroud’s switch from Twitch to Mixer has initiated a new era in the “conflict of streaming platforms”.
Since then, almost every week, “big streamers” are switching from Twitch to Mixer, YouTube, or now Facebook.
Facebook has already built a presence in streaming but mainly in Europe and Latin America. Disguised Toast is now the first “larger signing” in North America.
Facebook likely wants to become another competitor to Twitch, YouTube, and Mixer and increase its market share. Recently, that was quite small.
For Disguised Toast, the switch is interesting because he will likely become the largest English-speaking streamer on Facebook, while he was playing at the top on Twitch, but was still far from the top 10 with 1.3 million followers.
Disguised Toast is confident that his fans will remain loyal and that he can find and utilize new opportunities on the platform.
