Bad news for all Hearthstone fans. A long-awaited mode is being canceled. As a consolation, there are new “Standard” cards.
The developers of Hearthstone address the players in a long blog post and explain what they are currently working on and what is coming to Hearthstone fans soon. However, there is not only good news: the dream of a tournament mode is currently on hold.
Why was the tournament mode canceled? Blizzard justifies the development halt on this feature by stating that it does not meet Hearthstone’s quality standards. They have been working on it for a long time but simply could not achieve a satisfactory result. At the same time, the feature would only have appealed to a very small, specific group.
That is why they decided to stop working on it for now.
New cards in the Classic set: Four new cards will find their way into the Classic set with the next update. These include two cards for the Mage, one for the Warlock, and another for the Rogue. You can check out the cards here:
Why are there new Standard cards? Over the course of the seasons, some Hearthstone cards have been moved to the “Hall of Fame” because they were too dominant. As a result, some classes now have fewer cards than others. The new cards are intended to balance this disadvantage and entice new players to engage further. Therefore, they also feature effects that allow players to obtain other random cards.

25 new ranks for beginners: Those new to Hearthstone will soon have it much easier. Instead of starting at rank 25 as before, new accounts will start at rank 50. These new ranks are only available for completely new accounts. This is to ensure that newcomers have a long “settling-in period” in which they only compete against other newcomers. In these ranks, players cannot lose stars, so every win pushes them further ahead.
Additionally, new players will receive some incentives, presumably card packs, while climbing through these ranks to keep them engaged. By the way, we think the card puzzles make for a great tutorial.
When all the changes will go live is still unknown. At least the new cards should already be implemented in the game at the beginning of October.
