Hearthstone’s new expansion has been revealed. All heroes will die in “Knights of the Frozen Throne” and become Death Knights! Here is the cinematic for the new Hearthstone expansion. The release is in August 2017.
Just a few hours ago, Blizzard unveiled the latest expansion for Hearthstone in a livestream. As previously leaked, the expansion is called “Knights of the Frozen Throne” and thematically focuses on Icecrown and the Lich King Arthas, who turns the heroes into undead minions. Along with a ton of new cards, there will also be story missions to tell a narrative.

However, the developers wondered how to cram the dark world of Icecrown with the Lich King into the positive, cheerful, and funny setting of Hearthstone. The simple solution: all heroes die.
For example, we see Jaina Proudmoore in the trailer, who finally submits to her dark side – and drags all the other heroes into undeath with her.
All key details about Knights of the Frozen Throne, the new Hearthstone expansion
- New card type Hero Card – Such a card replaces the hero with a new one, triggers a Battlecry, and grants the player a new hero power. These cards transform your heroes into the respective “Death Knight” variant of the character.
- New keyword Life Steal – When a minion with Life Steal deals damage, that amount is healed to the hero of the owner. Spells can also have Life Steal.
- Deathrattle makes a comeback, many cards will be based on it
- In total, the expansion will contain 135 new cards for Hearthstone
- As story missions, there is the Icecrown Citadel with numerous bosses familiar from World of Warcraft.
- The Icecrown Citadel is said to offer the hardest missions yet.
- The Icecrown Citadel is free and there are rewards at the end of each wing.
- Knights of the Frozen Throne will be released in August. A specific date is yet to follow.
In the coming weeks and months, the developers will unveil all cards from the expansion “Knights of the Frozen Throne” – planning to start on July 24. The release is scheduled for August 2017.
