With just one move, the Hearthstone pro Rdu directly forces his opponent to concede. Was that all RNG? Or cold calculation?
Just like in most card games, chance (RNG) plays a significant role in Hearthstone as well. Often, luck determines victory or defeat. However, the pros of Hearthstone are masters at utilizing the RNG mechanics in their favor to achieve the desired outcome. This was demonstrated by Dima Radu, known as Rdu, in a match at the Legend rank – far, far up in the leaderboard.
What happened? Even though it was only the 5th turn, the opposing Shaman had already built quite an impressive board. 6 minions were ready to attack, including Aviana, which reduces the cost of the first card played by both players each turn to 0. But Rdu took advantage of this, taking his time to think: “How do we finish him off?”
He then decided to play the Tortollan Pilgrim. Normally, the minion costs 8 mana, but thanks to the opposing Aviana, it costs 0. As a battle cry, it discovers a spell from the deck and casts it on random enemies. Rdu firmly expected a Fireball and got it, leaving only two enemy minions remaining.
