The journey into the sunken city has begun. We will show you what lies in the depths of the new Hearthstone expansion.
For a few minutes now, the latest expansion of Hearthstone has been live on all platforms. The addon named “Journey into the Sunken City” comes with 135 new cards and also brings a lot of cool new approaches, numerous rewards, and a complete overhaul of the card pool. The meta of Hearthstone is likely to be in wild flux for several days now.
Two new keywords and new tribe
Although “Journey into the Sunken City” traditionally brings 135 new cards, there are a few bigger changes compared to previous expansions. This time there are 2 new keywords and even a new “Tribe,” meaning a new group of cards.
Colossal: Minions with the “Colossal” addition (e.g. “Colossal +3”) are too big to exist alone on the battlefield. They are particularly large monsters that consist of several body parts. A minion with “Colossal +3” would summon 3 additional minions that all interact with each other in some way.
Burgle: There are many cards with the “Burgle” addition. They allow the player to look at the three bottom cards of their deck and put one of them on top, so it gets drawn next. This is accompanied by numerous effects that banish cards deep into the deck – and can then be specifically brought back to light.
Naga: Naga now count as their own card tribe in Hearthstone (like Mechs, Totems, or Elementals). This means they have synergy effects with each other and can enhance each other. Most Naga focus on spells and grant the player additional buff effects when a spell has been played while the Naga card was in the player’s hand.
New core set brings back old cards – for everyone
To keep Hearthstone feeling fresh every year beyond the expansions, the developers have made further changes. The core set has been revamped. These are the cards that all players can unlock fairly early and represent the namesake “core” of the current year.
Some popular cards have been removed from the set, such as the Mirror Image or the Water Elemental. In compensation, cards like Fireball or the secret Explosive Runes are making a return.
A total of 57 cards are leaving the rotation, while 72 cards are being added. The new additions consist of “old” cards from past expansions that were previously only available in the wild game mode. They are now part of the new core set as of today. These cards are available to all players but cannot be disenchanted.
The expansion “Journey into the Sunken City” represents a good opportunity for returnees and newcomers, as much is currently changing. New deck ideas are likely to be created in the coming days before the meta stabilizes again in a few weeks.
