Hearthstone has a new mode and players of World of Warcraft a fancy mount – at least if they unlock it now.
It has long been announced, and now it is finally here. The Mercenary mode in Hearthstone is launching today, October 12, 2012. For a few minutes now, you can let loose in Hearthstone’s newest game mode. On the side, players from World of Warcraft can also earn a nice mount. What is required for this will be revealed in this article.
What is the Mercenary mode? The Mercenary mode is a brand new game mode in Hearthstone that has little to do with the rest. There is even a new menu point that contains an entire village with different locations.
Essentially, the Mercenary mode relies on many “roguelite” elements. Tactical planning is necessary, equipping and leveling up mercenaries to overcome difficulties and unlock increasingly powerful abilities.
However, the Mercenary mode is also facing criticism. There are already “Pay2Win” allegations for the PvP mode, and Blizzard is accused of double dipping from the player base. The Mercenary mode uses an entirely new set of card packs that have nothing to do with the rest of the game.
Additionally, it is criticized that the Mercenary mode eats away at players’ gold supply. Expanding the “village” costs a total of 900 gold coins, which cannot then be invested in other content.
What’s up with the mount? Hearthstone and World of Warcraft currently have a pretty strong cross-promotion going on, where each offers bonuses and advantages in the other game. A WoW subscription currently gets you a lot of card packs.
However, the new mount for WoW players might be more interesting. The mouse “Sarge” can now be obtained in World of Warcraft. To get it, you need to play Hearthstone and complete the tutorial of the new “Mercenary mode”. It shouldn’t take much time and can be done quickly even as an inactive player.
Immediately afterward, you can log in to World of Warcraft and claim Sarge, who will serve as your loyal mount for all your characters from that point on.
Visually, Sarge features many references to Hearthstone, as it carries a game board and has various decorations that hint at Blizzard’s card game – such as blue crystals that represent mana in Hearthstone.
Will you get Sarge from the Mercenary mode in Hearthstone? Or does this cross-promotion not appeal to you?
