Mayor Noggenfogger in Hearthstone loves randomness. And that leads to some of the most absurd rounds ever.
In the history of Hearthstone, there have always been cards whose effects are so absurd that they exist solely to create particularly amusing rounds. There are cards like Nozdormu, who limits the turn time to 15 seconds, or the (recently nerfed) Yogg-Saron, who unleashes a feast of random spells onto the battlefield.
The latest expansion “The Streets of Gadgetzan” has introduced a similar card into the game, namely none other than Mayor Noggenfogger himself. In World of Warcraft, Noggenfogger became famous primarily through the sale of his strange elixir, which can transform players into a skeleton, grant them “Slow Fall”, or shrink them. In Hearthstone, he is even a bit crazier.
With a cost of 9 mana and stats of 5/4, he is not exactly the strongest card in the expansion, but his card text turns every match into a lottery: All targets are chosen randomly. And “all” really means “all” in this case. Whenever either player has to choose a target, it rotates among all available characters.
The card thus comes straight from RNG hell, but it provides more fun than frustration. Even the pros in the scene sometimes enjoy messing around with Noggenfogger, as he allows for some interesting plays – if the RNG god is favoring them. In the following video, you will see some of the most entertaining matches featuring Mayor Noggenfogger.
Cortyn says: Even though such cards often split the community, it is precisely these absurd effects that keep Hearthstone fresh and interesting. I do think that the “everything random” effect doesn’t quite match Noggenfogger lore-wise (after all, the goblin is quite calculating), but hey. If it allows me to watch some fun games with Kripparian and the other pros laughing their heads off – bring it on.
Also terrible is the “Nasty Rat”, which has spoiled the tour for many Hearthstone pros.
