A Hearthstone streamer could have brought the servers down at the push of a button – if he had wanted to.
Most Hearthstone streamers know Kripparian quite well. Over the years, he has made a name for himself in the Hearthstone community through his assessments of new cards, his general performances in the Arena, and simply by being entertaining on his stream. But who would have thought that Kripparian once had the power to bring down the Hearthstone servers?
The reason for this is Kripparian’s long-term goal: He collects cards until he can craft every card in Hearthstone at golden quality.
This also means that he hasn’t disenchanting any cards so far. Instead, he is waiting for the moment when his calculation shows that he would now be able to craft every card in golden form. Only then does he plan to “press the button” and disenchant all cards automatically. Since he now has more than 160 copies of some cards, the disenchanting process would likely consume quite a bit of capacity – too much, even for Blizzard.
As Ben Brode explained on Reddit, there was a time when Kripparian could have overloaded the servers with the disenchantment of his collection and brought them down. Thanks to the hard work of the server technicians, this should no longer be an issue today – at least that’s what Brode hopes.
We will only really know when Kripparian decides to disenchant his collection. However, he still needs about 141,000 Arcane Dust in the form of cards, which corresponds to an average of 700 packs. It remains to be seen if he will achieve this goal before the next expansion is released.
Cortyn says: Especially veterans will surely remember how laggy the game became when disenchanting a lot of cards at once. I always thought it was the game’s client and not the server that caused this – but you can be mistaken. With such “power,” I would have, of course, forced the introduction of new succubus cards… a button to bind them forever.
