In Blizzard’s free online card game Hearthstone, a Hunter deck has once again reached the top of the North American rankings – despite the harsh nerfing of a key card.
The player ErA is currently being celebrated on reddit. He has reached 1st place in the North American ladder. That would already be an achievement. However, he has managed to do it with the class that some now say the nerf has finished off: the Hunter. Its key card “Starving Buzzard” was hit hard by the nerf hammer from Blizzard this week. The card draw card has been made almost unplayable and is therefore also missing in Era’s deck.
Instead, he consistently relies on the Undertaker and numerous smaller minions with Deathrattle effects and the combo of Mad Scientist and some traps. Additionally, the Black Knight shines in his deck, a card that reliably clears taunts and is among the strongest in high ladder matches.
Alongside the feared removals of the Hunter, the Savannah Highmane also shines in the deck as a truly powerful card.
In a thread on reddit, ErA is congratulated on the achievement. There is a consensus: at the top of the ladder, it’s mainly about playing with something that others simply do not expect. And that four days after the nerf, a Hunter deck is taking off, not many would have expected that.
