Blizzard’s free online card game Hearthstone has no plans to come to consoles. They also rejected the idea of a physical edition.
A few weeks ago, images from Asia circulated: someone had turned “Hearthstone” into a physical, tangible edition with cardboard cards and numerous plugs and buttons. After Blizzard took legal action against a digital copy from Asia, it is expected that the Chinese cardboard Hearthstone will soon face a similar fate.

Nevertheless, it’s an interesting idea. Could Blizzard themselves be interested in putting something like this together? “No,” said Hearthstone Software Engineer Rachelle Davis in an interview with Shacknews. The game is digitally designed. A tangible version of the game would have trouble replicating the individual effects. “Sure, one could make a card explode – but would that still be child-safe?” she asked with a smile.
There are currently no plans for a console port either. With the Android tablets, set to get Hearthstone in December, and the smartphone port next year, they apparently have enough to do. However, in the future, further cross-promotional actions with other Blizzard games can be imagined, such as the Hearthsteed mount with World of Warcraft. Because “Blizzard loves Blizzard” and they enjoy collaborating with the other franchises under the corporate roof.
