Hearthstone players are dissatisfied. A change in matchmaking has caused frustration and discontent. What has happened?
There are serious problems in ranked mode of Hearthstone. In particular, players with the rank “Legend” are complaining. They often face much worse players and lose their chance to participate in the big “Hearthstone Championship Tour” tournaments.
What is happening right now? The matchmaking of Hearthstone has apparently changed. Players in the rank “Legend” suffer from often fighting against other players who are ranked significantly lower than them. One example: A player A with the rank “Legend 300” must face a player B with the rank “Legend 4000”. If player A wins, he only climbs very few ranks. However, if he loses, he could drop several hundred places.
Why is this bad? Hearthstone is to some extent always dependent on luck, so even “worse” players can win against the pros with a bit of luck. However, this means a massive rank loss for the pro, who could drop several hundred ranks in the “Legend” tier. Since these pros rarely face players who are significantly higher in the Legend leaderboard, it is almost impossible to climb back up.
This is particularly frustrating for all players who want to try their hand at the “Hearthstone Championship Tour” tournaments. Qualification here is directly based on the earned Legend rank. Many pros are currently putting Hearthstone on hold and are waiting for the matchmaking to work as it did before.
Blizzard is silent. There has not yet been a statement from Blizzard regarding this issue. Players suspect that the developers are experimenting with various settings in the background. Whether it is a bug or an intended change is still uncertain.
