With Dr. Boom’s Laboratory, there is a new, tricky game mode in Hearthstone. The popular “Lethal Puzzles” are coming to the game!
A few days ago, Blizzard announced the next expansion for Hearthstone. In Dr. Boom’s Secret Laboratory (“The Boomsday Project”), there are not only exciting mechanics that we have presented here, but also a new PvE mode: the Lethal Puzzles.
What are “Lethal Puzzles”? In a “Lethal Puzzle” (also “Death Zone”), players find themselves in a tricky situation. Both their cards and the minions on the battlefield are preset. The goal is to figure out with the available resources how exactly to defeat the opponent in this exact turn. Often, there is only a single way to solve the situation – failure usually means immediate defeat.
Whether there is time pressure for these puzzles is still unclear, but that would significantly increase the difficulty.
Community sparked the idea. These puzzles are clearly inspired by the community. In the past, players have come up with various situations and then sent screenshots to their peers. They then had to find the right way to eliminate the opponent in a single turn. Such puzzles have been known in collectible card games for a long time, and fans of Magic: The Gathering also come up with such puzzles to tinker with. However, in Hearthstone, this works even better, as the opponent cannot react in the same turn.
More puzzle variations. Dr. Boom’s Secret Laboratory will feature even more puzzles, such as:
- Survival Puzzle: Here, players must try to survive the next opponent’s turn with limited resources.
- Tabula Rasa: Eliminate all minions on the battlefield this turn!
- Mirror Image: Create a perfect copy of the battlefield.
