Hearthstone is Pay2Win? A YouTuber proves that one can reach Legend in Hearthstone without spending a dime and completely Free2Play!
Since Blizzard decided to stop releasing Adventures and instead focus on 3 card expansions per year, the game has increasingly faced accusations of being “Pay2Win”. But is that really true? Can one still be successful in Hearthstone and climb the ladder without spending a cent?
Exactly that is what the YouTuber “Disguised Toast” wanted to test. Disguised Toast has been known for his videos showcasing bizarre card combinations or special tricks that few have thought of before.
Now he has attempted to see if he could reach the Legend rank with a fresh account, without spending a cent. To cut a long story short: He can! He only needed 189 matches over 3 weeks with a win rate of 67% to work his way up from rank 25 to Legend.
Hearthstone: With a Midrange Hunter deck, it takes 3 weeks to reach Legend without spending a cent
He chose a Midrange Hunter for his deck, which he gradually improved with better cards he unlocked while laddering. He imposed additional burdens on himself: He was not allowed to disenchant “good” cards from packs – so everything from “rare” and above. Also, no epic or legendary cards were included in his deck. Arena matches were also off-limits – however, he was not allowed to spend his gold according to his own rules.
The complete deck list (which will evolve during the challenge) can be viewed in the video above.
Mein-MMO says: This success of Disguised Toast has been achieved by other players in the past. However, it is a good signal, showing that in Hearthstone, planning, strategy, and skill are still far more important than a deep wallet. Therefore, the accusations of Pay2Win are only partially true – as one can reach the highest rank in the game without spending a dime.
