A feature as a one-hit wonder. In Hearthstone the tri-class mechanic is likely to be discarded.
The Streets of Gadgetzan introduced several new mechanics in Blizzard’s card game Hearthstone. The tri-class mechanic has likely had the biggest impact on the game. It introduced several cards that could be used by three classes simultaneously. As a special bonus, these cards allowed the targeted use of class cards from other classes, which enabled numerous new combinations.
Despite everything, there are only a handful of cards for each faction – meaning the Cabal, Jade Lotus, and Fungalmancers. There is still plenty of room to expand this mechanic and add new effects. In our interview with Game Director Ben Brode, we therefore discussed exactly this topic and asked: Will the tri-class mechanic also be used in future expansions?
“We currently have no plans to further develop the tri-class mechanic. But we have other crazy ideas that we’re excited to explore.”
So for those hoping for new cards they can share with other “colleagues,” it looks like they are out of luck.
Cortyn says: Maybe it’s not so bad to let the tri-class mechanic rest now. The more cards of this type are released, the greater the risk that the individual classes will “lose their identity.” If a Paladin can suddenly hold 10 Warrior cards in hand, that would be a bit strange.
Ben Brode also answered how far in advance developers are planning new expansions.
