Demon Hunters have sneaked into the Classic mode of Hearthstone and have caused havoc, even though they shouldn’t be there.
For several days now, the latest patch has been live in Hearthstone, preparing for the expansion “Forged in the Barrens.” However, a bug has caused confusion and dismay in recent days. Demon Hunters dominated a game mode in which they shouldn’t be allowed to play: the Classic mode.
What happened? Several days ago, Blizzard released the pre-patch for the “Forged in the Barrens” expansion and also implemented a new game mode. The “Classic mode” takes Hearthstone players back to the past, to the beginnings of the card game. Here, all cards are just as they were shortly after the release. Nerfs were reverted, and even “banned” cards are playable again. A wonderful celebration of nostalgia that many players enjoy.
However, there was a troublemaker. The Demon Hunter also slipped into the Classic mode and was played, even though it had no business there. The Demon Hunter is a relatively new class and did not exist at the original release.
The culprit was an exploit that allowed players to play the new class in the “Classic mode”. This led to many players becoming frustrated in the Classic mode, as the Demon Hunter, even without class cards, is perfectly suited to defeat opponents as early as turn 4.

How did the bug work? The exclusion of the Demon Hunters in the Classic mode could be easily circumvented. Players only had to copy a deck code from the Standard mode. They simply created a Demon Hunter deck consisting only of Classic cards and were then able to use it in the Classic mode. This allowed players to sign up as a Demon Hunter in Classic mode.
In the meantime, the bug has been fixed with a small mini-patch, and the Classic mode is free of the Demon Hunter.
When is the expansion coming out? It won’t be long until “Forged in the Barrens” goes fully live. Today, on March 30, in the early evening, the expansion is set to launch and bring 135 new cards. Typically, the launch of an expansion occurs between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM German time. From then on, you can open card packs and earn the new rewards.
