Yesterday was Vulkanosaurus Day in Hearthstone. Everything revolved around the dino minion. It was available to play a day before the “Journey to Un’Goro.”
Blizzard’s card game Hearthstone gets 135 new cards today. Yesterday, the first of them was already playable:
The Vulkanosaurus (Vulcanosaur) was the login reward on April 5th. – even as a golden version, every player who logged into Hearthstone was handed a Vulkanosaurus.
Everything revolves around the Vulkanosaurus
For 24 hours, everything revolved around this forerunner of the dino invasion. The card was fully playable, while all other 134 new cards were not yet available.
As the US site Kotaku reports, players on reddit proclaimed the “Vulkanosaurus Day“. Decks were constructed around this card.
Especially in combination with Brann Bronzebeard, the dinosaur becomes a monster, as the Vulkanosaurus can acquire 4 handpicked buffs through the “Adapt” ability.
What starts as an unassuming 5/6 beast for 7 mana quickly becomes a useful spotter or a damage machine with Windfury.
The combination “Brann-Vulkanosaurus” only worked on that one day, as when the “Journey to Un’Goro” finally releases, Brann Bronzebeard will rotate out of the “Standard Rotation.” He has been around since 2015 and the “Explorer’s League” expansion, which means that the 3 expansions from 2015 will soon no longer be “Standard” and can only be played in “Wild” format.
In any case, it seems the Hearthstone players had a great time with the Vulkanosaurus yesterday. As Kotaku writes, it was a kind of “Bizarro-Hearthstone,” because exactly this gameplay composition was only possible for 24 hours. A day before and a day after, Hearthstone will look different again. But April 5, 2017, will forever go down in history as “Vulkanosaurus Day.”
