Hearthstone changes its game rules. For the first time in the history of the card game, you can purchase all new cards directly – and even with in-game gold.
Upon the release of the Darkmoon Madness, Blizzard already announced that there will be a mini-set during the current expansion. This consists of 35 new cards – and has now been revealed. The special part: For the first time, you can buy all new cards specifically and don’t have to rely on your luck. We reveal what this is all about.
What kind of set is this? The mini-set “Darkmoon Race” consists of 35 new cards that thematically still belong to the Darkmoon Faire expansion. They spice up the existing cards a bit, allow new combos, and are likely to shake up the meta significantly in the coming days.
How can you get the new cards? Basically, the cards can be obtained in 4 different ways. In addition to the new options, the already known possibilities also apply. This means you can get the cards as follows:
- You can draw them from the Darkmoon Madness card packs
- You can craft them from Arcane Dust
- You can buy the entire set for 2,000 gold (in-game currency)
- You can buy the entire set for €14.99 (real money)
You heard it right. For the first time in Hearthstone, you can specifically and directly purchase all new cards and are not dependent on luck. For the price of €15 or 2,000 gold, you get a total of 66 cards (35 unique cards + duplicates) and can start building new decks right away.
When are the new cards available? The update goes live on January 21, likely in the evening hours between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM. Only after that can you get the new cards from new packs – so you shouldn’t buy any packs beforehand.
This whole thing seems to be an experiment by Blizzard. Buying cards directly has been demanded by the community for years. The ability to obtain all cards even for the relatively low price of 2,000 gold is generally seen as positive. Whether Blizzard will also adopt this concept in the future remains to be seen.
In any case, this is a good sign, after players felt ripped off by the Battle Pass.
