In a patch, Hearthstone has drastically changed a mechanic. “Discover” now works differently, which significantly affects some classes.
A bit surprisingly, there was a small patch for Hearthstone that brought some changes. It primarily includes the still missing data for the adventure “Graves of Horror”, but also some adjustments and changes. The biggest change concerns the “Discover” mechanic, which now operates differently than before.
This is how Blizzard changes “Discover”: Discover allows the player to choose from three cards, from which they can then select one. Only cards of their own class as well as neutral cards are offered. However, cards of their own class previously had a 4-times higher chance to appear than neutral cards.
This will now change. In the future, all cards will have the same chance to appear during discover – regardless of whether they are a class card or a neutral card.
Why was this changed? Over the years, various discover effects have become increasingly restrictive and precise. For example, there is the possibility to discover a minion that costs 1 mana – in some classes, this pool contains only a handful of cards. If one of them was a class card, then there was an extremely high chance that this card was offered almost every time.
What are the implications? Due to the change in the “Discover” mechanic, a few classes have been “silently” nerfed. This particularly affects Warriors who, through their hero card Dr. Boom or other discover effects, could generate many strong mechs of their class. But other classes, such as Priests, are also affected by this change. Overall, this mechanic becomes a bit “more colorful” and ensures that players see more different cards.
Warriors had already been nerfed before, as Dr. Boom received an adjustment!
What do you think about this change to discover? Is it a good and reasonable nerf for some classes? Or is Blizzard ruining a mechanic and bringing more RNG?
