The “face” of Hearthstone is now the Game Director: Ben Brode. But what drives Eric Dodds?
In recent months, fans of Blizzard have had to endure some tough blows, as a few developers have packed their bags and left either Blizzard or the industry altogether.
More or less “secretly”, another restructuring was also on the way for the card game Hearthstone. Eric Dodds is no longer the Game Director of the game, but has handed over the position to Ben Brode (who has long been considered the “face” of the game). Brode announced this on Twitter when he was approached by another user about his new status.
However, the question of where Eric Dodds has gone remains unclear. Since there has been no public post from him about his resignation or departure from Blizzard, fans speculate that he has moved on to a new project within Blizzard. Other developers, such as Tom Chilton as the former Game Director of World of Warcraft, have also been reassigned.
What kind of project this is has not yet been clarified. Fan speculation ranges from Diablo 4 to Warcraft 4 and a single-player game in the Overwatch universe up to the revival of a classic adventure.
If nothing gets leaked in the next few weeks, we can probably expect a resolution no earlier than GamesCom 2017 or the following BlizzCon – otherwise Blizzard rarely reveals anything about new projects.
What do you think Blizzard is currently working on in secret? What genre could they target next to put their own stamp on it?
Chris Metzen is reportedly in early retirement due to panic attacks.
