Just in time for Gamescom, a lot of information about Hearthstone has been released, including new rewards and mechanics.
Bonus loot at the end of the month
The ranked play mode in Hearthstone is getting new rewards. Depending on the highest rank achieved in the current month, players can expect an additional reward chest. This chest contains, in addition to the card back of the month, some golden cards and a small amount of dust for crafting new cards. The chest is based on the highest rank achieved, regardless of whether you have lost a few places afterward. This is intended to ensure that players continue to have an incentive to play the ranked mode after reaching a rank they like. The better your rank, the more golden cards there are as well. Blizzard provides two examples: At rank 17, there is one golden card, 20 dust, and the card back; at rank 5, there are a total of 3 golden cards, some dust, and the back.
Jousting – The game within the game
Additionally, a new game mechanic was presented at Gamescom in Cologne, which is internally referred to as Jousting, but is basically just a new type of battle cry or death rattle. “Each player reveals a minion from both decks. If yours costs more, then … “ followed by a positive effect, such as Charge for the played card or additional durability of a weapon. On one hand, the mechanic sounds exciting, as it is naturally a gamble that decides through additional strength of the card. On the other hand, it gives a small insight into both players’ decks – a possible information advantage that should not be overlooked.
Plenty of new cards
For the conclusion, we have here some fresh cards from Gamescom, which use the new Jousting mechanic. The effects range from additional buffs to your own cards to exciting death rattles with the Skeleton Knight, which returns to the owner’s hand when winning the joust.
