The latest Hearthstone mode is now available for all players. We will tell you how to participate in “Battlegrounds.”
At BlizzCon 2019, Hearthstone introduced a new game mode inspired by popular “Auto Chess” games like Teamfight Tactics or DOTA Underlords. After the closed beta of “Battlegrounds” (Battleground) started a week ago, the open beta is now live. This means that anyone interested can join the new mode.
How can you participate? The “Battleground” mode can be found in the new “Modes” menu. This used to be the button for the Arena, and now both the Arena and Battleground are located there.
On which platforms is the mode available? The Battleground mode is currently available on all platforms, including PC and mobile devices.
However, keep in mind that it will currently perform poorly or not at all on mobile devices with less than 2 GB RAM, as it requires a lot of power. Blizzard plans to improve this in the coming months.
How does the game mode work? You compete against 7 other players and start by choosing a hero with a special ability. Then, round by round, you have the opportunity to buy and play minions to create strong synergies and powerful effects on the battlefield. In the combat phase, you will face a random enemy, with minions attacking automatically. Whoever still has minions at the end deals damage to their opponent.
The match ends as soon as one player is the last survivor. Anyone eliminated before can leave the match early and does not have to stay until the end.
At the beginning, however, you will play a tutorial that explains the basics of the game and introduces you to the mechanics.
What does the mode cost? Unlike in the Arena, you do not have to pay an entry fee for Battlegrounds; the mode is completely free. There are, however, a number of bonuses that you can indirectly unlock with money by purchasing card packs from current expansions.
Then you will have access to additional features of the game mode:
- 10 packs: You gain access to additional statistics in the Battleground mode. (available only after the beta)
- 20 packs: You can choose from 3 heroes at the beginning instead of just 2.
- 30 packs: You can use visual emotes in the Battleground mode.
Have you checked out the new mode yet? What do you think of Hearthstone Battleground? A cool addition or pointless nonsense?
