Blizzard’s free card game Hearthstone has surpassed the 20 million mark even without iPhone and Android.
Just in March, Hearthstone was released for PC, and in April for iPad. By then, the card game had already gone through an expansive beta phase, which hardly differed from the release. Around that time, Blizzard already announced that more than 10 million people worldwide had picked up the card game. Just five months later, the number has doubled: 20 million players have given Hearthstone, the strategic card game set in the Warcraft universe, a chance.
At Blizzard, they are celebrating this with a thank you card on Twitter and a “Jaws” reference. “We’re going to need a bigger tavern,” it says. In Jaws, they were asking for a bigger boat.

With iPhone and Android, Hearthstone could reach new dimensions
Surely the Naxxramas expansion has contributed to Hearthstone’s rising popularity. However, a real boost is expected from another corner. The demand for Blizzard’s card game on iPhone and Android is simply enormous: People want to enjoy this strategically demanding hobby on the go, during lunch breaks, in the garden, or comfortably on their sofa while expanding their collection.
If Blizzard succeeds in moving Hearthstone to iPhone and Android as planned this year, then the impressively high 20 million players they currently have could just be the beginning.
