The next Hearthstone expansion features a choice. Apparently, the adventure is not linear, but players must choose between good or evil.
In three days, the BlizzCon 2019 will take place, and it is already clear that there will be many new announcements. Unsurprisingly, Hearthstone will also be represented with a new expansion. However, the first teasers are already available, as the Hearthstone Twitter account has released a short trailer.
What can be seen? The trailer shows Madam Lazul, one of the leaders of the Ü.B.E.L. League. She looks into her crystal ball, where Dalaran can once again be seen over Northrend – apparently over the Dragonblight area. The ball also clearly shows the Wyrmrest Temple and the large skeleton of Galakrond, the greatest dragon that ever existed. Afterwards, Madam Lazul examines her cards and speaks in cryptic messages about the possibility of several endings, with the choice of the ending lying with the player.
“Player Choice” in the story of Hearthstone? What is interesting about the trailer is that Madam Lazul’s voice mentions that the end of this adventure is not clear. There are two possibilities for who can emerge victorious from this plot – the Ü.B.E.L. League and the Explorer’s League. This is probably because all expansions from 2019 had a cohesive story.
In the expansion Conspiracy of Shadows, players helped the villains capture Dalaran, while in Saviors of Uldum, they assisted the Explorer’s League and defeated the great plagues of Uldum.
In the upcoming final part of this story, there apparently is a choice regarding which of the two powers the players want to lead to victory.
Fans hope for a new “Choice” mechanic: Although the trailer provides no information about gameplay mechanics or new cards, Hearthstone players already have many wishes and theories. They hope that this “choice” mechanic will also be reflected in the cards. For example, cards could have different effects depending on which class they are played from.
Other players hope there will be cards that can only be played by one “side” of the conflict. That is, the classes belonging to the “evil” (Ü.B.E.L.) and the classes that belong to the “good” (Explorer’s League). This would be comparable to the tri-class cards from Gadgetzan.
Some players note on Reddit that while the trailer sounds interesting, they will boycott the expansion due to the Blitzchung affair. They want to stick to their boycott. Recently, even US senators sent a “nasty letter” to Blizzard.
