The story of the Lich King pressed into a rap. Ben Brode delights the Hearthstone community and gives you “something to listen to”.
If you were to ask the fans who is the most charismatic face of Blizzard, then without a doubt the Game Director of Hearthstone, Ben Brode, would be at the top of the list. This is not only because he always seems to be in a good mood, but also due to the enthusiasm he brings to his work that is unmatched.
When Hearthstone players were disappointed that there was no song for the new cinematic in the Un’Goro expansion, Ben Brode took it upon himself and crafted a rap in his own home. The fans celebrated this so much that he is now back with “Knights of the Frozen Throne” and once again sings a little tune.
Ben Brode as the rapping storyteller of Hearthstone
This time, Brode turns to the main antagonist of the expansion and tells the story of Arthas Menethil and how he ultimately became the Lich King.
Although Brode had to pack the story of the fallen prince into a rhyming rap, he does not leave out any details and narrates all the small and larger twists. This starts with the outbreak of the plague in Lordaeron, continues with the attack in Hearthglen, the cleansing of Stratholme, and ultimately the journey to Northrend.
Or to put it in the words of professional player Kripparian: “Ben Brode was made by God to sell Blizzard Hearthstone expansions.” Looking at this enthusiasm for his projects and fans… we can only agree.
How do you like this video? Is it cool that the Game Director of a game releases such videos? Or is he “making a fool of himself” and devaluing the whole game?
Cortyn says: I don’t think I’ve ever seen a developer who is so enthusiastic about their own game and who you can actually believe it. While many developers (even at Blizzard) often seem like they have been briefed by marketing on what and how they are allowed to say, Ben Brode is always a blast of energy. By now, I even hope that upcoming expansions won’t get their own song, just so Brode can grab the microphone again.
By the way, a card is getting heavily nerfed in “Knights of the Frozen Throne” – the Warlock’s Dreadsteed!
