The first Warcraft, a strategy game, was originally supposed to be a “Warhammer” license, which could have utilized the background story. However, that fell through at the last moment, and Blizzard had to come up with its own backstory to justify the conflict between orcs and humans. Somehow, years later, Medivh was created from this with his complex story as a demon-possessed mage.
