More is becoming known about the upcoming Season 3 of Year 5 in Rainbow Six Siege. Now the Creative Director and the Lead Game Designer of the game have also responded – and hinted even more. They may only have a few short sentences, but they carry quite a weight.
Here’s what the bosses say: On Twitter, Creative Director Leroy Athanassoff and Lead Game Designer Jean-Baptiste Hallé have made some hints about the upcoming content for Rainbow Six Siege.
Hallé stated that the upcoming Season 3 of Year 5 “will be the biggest […] Season yet” and will change the meta like no other (via Twitter). YouTuber Skittlz has already played the season in advance and confirms: “This is a whole new game” (via Twitter).
The recently banned YouTuber BikiniBodhi wrote elsewhere that all of this should get the nickname “Siege 2.0”. Athanassoff then responded with: “Man, if you think this is 2.0, then you are clearly not prepared for what’s coming next year.”
The title image comes from a YouTube video by Ubisoft.
Season 3 shakes up the meta – Year 6 the whole game?
What changes with Season 3: It is already known that the upcoming Season 3 “Shadow Legacy” will bring the Splinter Cell protagonist Sam Fisher aka Zero as an operator, as well as presumably a new gadget.
The new gadget is the “Mini Breach Charge”, which will completely change the meta. With it, many attacker operators suddenly have the ability to partially destroy reinforced walls, taking cover away from defenders.
Reinforcements are, besides some good reconnaissance, one of the most important tactical elements for victory in Rainbow Six Siege. They determine which routes opponents can and cannot take. Moreover, they provide important hiding spots and cover for defenders. The latter will practically disappear with the new gadget.
What comes next and with Year 6? We already know that there will be a major rework for operator Tachanka, which is set to come this year, either in the upcoming Season 3 or in the last Season 4 of Year 5.
Additionally, there is already a leak that reveals the second operator coming in Year 5: Aruni, a quick-witted Thai boxer. Since the leak about Zero (then still under the name Scout) turned out to be correct, Aruni is also quite certain. Seasons 3 and 4 of Year 5 are the first in which only one operator is introduced.
However, there is currently nothing that could back up Athanassoff’s statement regarding Year 6. Nothing is known about the upcoming seasons after Year 5 yet. So it remains to be seen whether we are really not prepared for what is to come.
