Finally, fans can look forward to a release date for Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail. However, the expansion will be released a bit later than planned – and the reason is quirky.
When will Dawntrail be released? Fans can now officially look forward to a release date for Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail. The expansion will be released on July 02, 2024.
However, pre-order customers will get earlier access and can play Dawntrail starting from June 28, 2024, at 11:00 AM (CET). On Steam, you should be able to pre-order the expansion starting Tuesday, March 26, 2024.

Why was Dawntrail postponed? In his announcement, Yoshi-P, producer and director of Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail, mentioned that they could have released the expansion even earlier.
The team decided to postpone the launch of the expansion for a very clear reason. They noticed that another DLC is scheduled to be released on June 21, 2024. This is about Shadow of the Erdtree, the highly anticipated content pack for Elden Ring.
Yoshi-P stated in his explanation that they specifically chose a one-week gap between the two releases. Players are presumably supposed to have enough time to indulge in Elden Ring, only to have time for the MMORPG and Dawntrail afterward.

Yoshi-P himself seems to be no exception. Because he says that he absolutely wants to play Shadow of the Erdtree. Perhaps the team wants to allow themselves a quiet week to peacefully play the Elden Ring DLC before they are fully occupied with Dawntrail.
What can you expect in Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail? In the major expansion, you can expect not only a graphical update and new story content, but also numerous new features.
Among other things, you will get:
- New dungeons, a raid series, and an alliance raid series
- New races: Pelupelu, Moblins, Mamool Ja, Yok Huy, Hanuhanu
- Two new jobs named Viper and Pictomancer
- New trials and field excursions
- New features in PvP
- More dream trials
- Improvements to the game system
In addition, there will be a new playable race in Final Fantasy XIV. Soon you will be able to play female Hrothgar. You can even play these without Dawntrail if you own the Shadowbringers expansion.
