What has the situation been regarding the multiplayer mode? It has been somewhat confusing. Initially, it was said that a multiplayer mode was planned, but then the developers suddenly claimed that none would come. Cyberpunk 2077 is supposed to be a single-player role-playing game. And if they introduce multiplayer, it will be later and only when they have the right idea for it.
Multiplayer is coming after all
How has the situation changed now? CD Projekt Red’s President Adam Kicinski stated that currently, three teams are working on projects related to Cyberpunk 2077.
- One is developing the main game, which is set to be released on April 16, 2020
- Another team, strengthened by 40 members, is working on a multiplayer mode for Cyberpunk 2077
- A third team is developing the next AAA project, which is also set in the same universe and is supposed to be something innovative
What could the multiplayer mode look like? We know that CD Projekt Red places great importance on making Cyberpunk 2077 primarily a story-driven single-player role-playing game with interesting characters and decisions that have consequences. However, there are certainly ways to incorporate multiplayer:
- A multiplayer mode could take place separately like in GTA Online. Players team up and complete missions in the same game world
- There could be special coop missions, for which you need to meet at a bar to assemble a team
- PvP battles could take place in an arena
- There could be competitions in cyberspace
When could the multiplayer mode arrive? Presumably, it will be a DLC that will be released after the launch of Cyberpunk 2077.
Will the next Cyberpunk game be an MMO?
What does Kicinski’s statement mean? We will therefore see another large game in the same universe after Cyberpunk 2077. It is said to be an innovative project.
This could be an indication that multiplayer will be integrated from the start. Will we perhaps get a Cyberpunk MMORPG? Or some kind of Cyberpunk “Destiny”? The project is certainly a few years away from being revealed.
