In the MOBA DOTA 2 (Steam), the tournament “DreamLeague Season 22” is currently ongoing. There is a prize pool of 1 Million $, with the winner receiving 300,000 $. However, in the midst of the tournament, the team Tundra Esports has removed the experienced professional MinD-ContRoL from the roster. While fans are speculating about what happened, the player clarifies what led to his abrupt departure. He lost a power struggle within the team.
Who is this?
- The Bulgarian Ivan Borislavovov Ivanov has been a player in DOTA 2 as MinD-ContRoL since 2013.
- During his long career, he has won 4.7 million $ (via esportsearnings). There is a lot to gain in DOTA 2. Most of his money was earned at 22, when he raked in 2.17 million $ after winning “The International”; the highly rewarded tournament in DOTA 2, which is akin to a world championship.
- However, the prize pools have significantly decreased since he turned 24. He most recently played as an offlaner for Tundra Esports.
Fans initially think the news is a joke
This was the news: Without much advance notice, the professional tweeted on February 26 that he was “kicked from the team shortly before a match”.
This caused a lot of astonishment – such things usually do not happen. People initially thought it was a joke.
The player had joined the team a month earlier, on January 8.
The team then released a statement on the same day, February 26, on Twitter, that they had suspended the player and were initiating an “internal investigation”.
The player informed the organization that he would not continue with them until his “unreasonable demands” were met.
Pro has Ultimatum during Power Struggle and Lost
What was the reason? The player explained the situation on February 26 during a livestream. He said:
- He lost his captain role in the team
- The head of Tundra installed a new coach – against whom MinD-ContRoL had previously spoken out
- Moreover, Zai became a player-manager – against which he was also opposed
Due to all these decisions that went against his will, which he perceived as excessive interference, he put the team in front of an ultimatum – but they chose to fire him instead.
Well, one wonders from the outside what he expected as an outcome after this ultimatum. If the team gives in under such circumstances, all authority is gone.
