Soon we can expect the sequel to Gladiator in theaters. Pedro Pascal is also involved. For him, the filming was a real challenge. Especially his co-star made Pascal suddenly feel very old.
What can we expect in Gladiator 2? The sequel to Ridley Scott’s modern classic has taken some time to arrive. Over 20 years have passed since the first part was released in 2000.
Gladiator tells the story of Maximus, who was portrayed by Russell Crowe at the time. In the sequel, we see what happens to Licius Verus, the son of Maximus’ beloved Lucilla. The role is played by Paul Mescal. Other high-profile stars such as Denzel Washington and Pedro Pascal are also involved.
The latter mainly remembers the filming. This is especially because it was very strenuous.

In Game of Thrones, Pascal fought like a young god
In Game of Thrones, Pascal played the role of Prince Oberyn Martell, even though someone else was initially planned for the role. If you watched the series, you probably remember the duel between Pedro Pascal’s character and the “Mountain”, a giant that one would not want to mess with. A scene that Pascal later described as very relaxing.
In this fight, Pascal appears highly confident, which is also due to his nasty tactics. He is agile, fast, and puts his physically superior opponent in trouble. Watching this scene, one could get the impression that Pascal would still find such a fight easy today.
But on the set of Gladiator 2, the actor had to learn that he has gotten older. Especially one fight against Paul Mescal’s character pushed him to his physical limits. He describes it as follows:
It was brutal, man. I call him Paul, the brick wall. He’s so strong. I would rather be thrown from a building than have to fight him again. Facing someone who is so fit, so talented, and so young… Besides the fact that Ridley is a genius, Paul is one of the main reasons why I decided to engage in this experiment with my poor body.

That there are physical differences between the two is not surprising. After all, Pedro Pascal is now 49 years old, while Paul Mescal is only 28.
