If you are a trophy hunter and platinum collector, this is likely a feature you have been waiting for!
For many PlayStation players, a game is only considered 100% completed when the platinum trophy pops up. This is the coveted trophy that you receive only after earning all other unlockable achievements in the game.
Players approach trophies differently: some diligently work towards platinum to expand their collection, while others are indifferent to such achievements, and others still think trophies are nice but are satisfied with what they earn during “normal gameplay”.
In the future, you may become more focused on trophy hunting, as an update currently causing a stir with the Sony Rewards Program.
Convert Trophies into PSN Credits
This rewards program has actually existed for a while, but until now it only offered boring rewards, making it of no significance to players. Many PS4 players in Germany are probably hearing about it for the first time.
A new update makes this feature much more interesting: It is now possible to convert hard-earned trophies into PSN credits. You can then use these to buy whatever you like in the PlayStation Store.
The rewards program works like this:
- Each 100 silver trophies grant you 100 points,
- each 25 gold trophies can be redeemed for 250 points
- and 10 platinum trophies give you 1000 points.
For each 1000 points, you can earn a $10 voucher for the PlayStation Store.
This is certainly not a lot of money for the time invested, so you’re better off not quitting your job to become a professional trophy hunter, but for those who collect trophies anyway, this is certainly a welcome bonus.
However, there are not just one but two catches to this whole thing:
- The feature is currently only available in the USA. In Germany, you cannot redeem your trophies.
- Points are not retroactively awarded. This means you only earn points for the trophies you collect after signing up for the rewards program. If you already have 40 platinum trophies in your collection, you cannot convert them.
But: If this feature successfully takes off in the USA and becomes popular, it is likely that it will also be made available to the rest of the world in the future. We have no official information about this from Sony.
