Daniel Radcliffe mentioned in an interview that he was afraid of Alan Rickman, the actor who played Professor Snape, at the time. However, he now looks back gratefully at the support he received from his Harry Potter colleague.
In the context of the podcast Happy Sad Confused on April 11, 2024, Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe was shown a clip from an earlier interview in which the late Alan Rickman praised him and his performance.
Moved by the video, Daniel Radcliffe spoke about how much fear he had of the actor as a child – who ultimately turned out to be a good friend.

Not only Harry Potter was intimidated by Snape, but also Daniel Radcliffe
“I was so intimidated by Alan Rickman. How can you not be intimidated by that voice?” said Daniel Radcliffe during the podcast.
Due to the deep voice, the young actor was afraid of the actor playing Professor Snape for years. The fear lasted for three whole films. Furthermore, he was convinced that his Harry Potter colleague hated him:
“Even when you heard that voice, you completely forget how deep it was until it comes to your ears. In the first three films, I was so intimidated by him. I was terribly afraid of him and thought: ‘This guy hates me.'”

However, over the course of filming, Radcliffe’s attitude towards Rickman changed. The older actor noticed how much the Harry Potter star was dedicated to acting and became a sort of mentor for Radcliffe, taking the time to watch his plays and discuss them afterward:
“At some point, he saw that I really wanted to do this and work on it. He canceled a vacation in Canada to see me in ‘Equus.’ He saw every one of my stage performances when he was still alive. Afterwards, he went to dinner with me, and we talked about it. He was one of the first to say: ‘You should look into voice training and examine all these things more closely.'”
In the end, Daniel Radcliffe emphasized once again how grateful he was that he was shown the video clip that he had not known about before.
