Rank 3: Lord Voldemort
Hardly any Slytherin ever had as much power and influence as Lord Voldemort – albeit not for good. Even as a boy, under the name Tom Marvolo Riddle, his remarkable magical abilities were evident.
For many years, he tried to attain sole dominion and was almost successful. He masters things like Legilimency, Parseltongue, flying without a broom, wandless and nonverbal magic, and of course the Dark Arts.
Driven by his delusional desire for immortality, he crossed all boundaries when he created not just one, but seven Horcruxes. He embodies all the evil that is often attributed to Slytherin House and ranks third on our list.
Rank 2: Salazar Slytherin
Strictly speaking, Salazar Slytherin was not a member of Slytherin himself. After all, he was the one who founded the house. Nevertheless, we want to include him in this ranking as there is no one who was more “Slytherin” than Salazar himself.
As one of the four founders of Hogwarts, Salazar Slytherin was an outstanding wizard. He mastered Legilimency, was a Parselmouth, and was considered an exceptional fighter. He managed to tame a basilisk and secretly built the “Chamber of Secrets”.
In a way, he was the “Dark Lord” of his time, who had a great fascination for the Dark Arts and despised those of “Muggle descent”. He was the ancestor and also the role model of Lord Voldemort, and occupies the second place in this ranking.
Rank 1: Merlin
The undoubtedly legendary wizard of Slytherin House is none other than Merlin. The very same Merlin who later became part of King Arthur’s court. Although we do not see him as a character in Harry Potter – after all, he comes from the medieval period – his figure is known from other books, films, and series.
It is said that Merlin was taught by Salazar Slytherin himself. However, unlike his master, Merlin believed that wizards should help Muggles and live peacefully with them. To this end, he founded the “Order of Merlin”, which still exists today and advocates for the strengthening of Muggle rights.
Merlin is regarded as one of the most powerful wizards to have ever lived, placing him at the top of this ranking.
