Even almost 2 months after release, Diablo Immortal still has many fans who log in regularly. We spoke with an avid player who has been gaming daily since day 1 and asked him about his motivations and methods in the game.
Since the release of Diablo Immortal on June 2, 2022, a lot has happened in the new mobile title:
- Diablo Immortal received its 2nd season after a month of silence, which was rather meager.
- The new raid boss was not well received, as it was way too hard for most players.
- Shortly thereafter, update 1.5.2 was released, bringing numerous new features including the highly anticipated class change.
- But even here there was criticism, as skins are lost during the class change for which players have paid real money.
The Pay2Win discussion still dominates the game, even though the latest update has brought a lot of fairness. Therefore, we asked a player who has been playing regularly since release what still excites him about Diablo Immortal.
In our video, we show you everything you need to know about Diablo Immortal in 3 minutes:
“I make good progress with 1-1.5 hours a day”
MeinMMO: Could you introduce yourself briefly? Who are you and what is your relation to Diablo Immortal and the Diablo series?
Michael: “I am Michael, an engineer in the automotive industry, 31 years old. As a child, I initially played Diablo 2 together with my father, later on my first own computer alone, until my parents turned off the electricity.
Subsequently, I waited many years for the successor and then sank very many hours into Diablo 3. Over time, that has decreased significantly. I lost fun when the drop rates kept increasing and eventually I came out of a portal with 10 legendary items.
I was actually very hyped about Diablo Immortal since the announcement and invested a lot of time in the first 2-3 weeks. From a current perspective, I still enjoy the game a lot and pursue all PvE activities. How long the fun will last remains to be seen over the next few weeks, as the much-discussed P2W factor naturally increases the gap between whales and F2P players.”
MeinMMO: How long and intensely have you been playing Diablo Immortal?
Michael: “I have been playing since release. In the first weeks about 3-4 hours a day. But afterwards, it became clear to me that the classic Diablo grind does not really work efficiently here. Whether through loot limits or outrageously low drop rates, you are definitely limited in the grind.
Additionally, there is the server paragon, which significantly slows down leveling. Currently, I make good progress with a time investment of about 1-1.5 hours a day without any issues. I complete all the dailies and automatically finish the weekly tasks as well. So I am always about 1-2 levels above the server paragon.”
MeinMMO: How much money have you invested in the game so far?
Michael: That should be between 50 and 60 euros.
“Diablo Immortal is the better Diablo 3”
MeinMMO: What has impressed you the most about Diablo Immortal since release?
Michael: “As many already say: ‘Diablo Immortal is the better Diablo 3.’ The areas in the open world with the constantly popping events are great. The hidden dungeons, or hoards, are fun since they drop gems and have a high chance of legendary drops.
In general, all actions whether raids, rifts, or dungeons take less than 5 minutes, which I really like since I am now only playing Immortal on the side. One must always remember: We are talking about a mobile game, which is often forgotten as the quality far exceeds that of other mobile titles.”
MeinMMO: Which feature disappointed you the most and why?
Michael: “Actually, the already mentioned ‘progress brakes’. If I really feel like grinding for 5-6 hours on a weekend, usually after 2 hours the air is out because nothing seems to drop anymore, and the paragon bar hardly moves. It’s cool to have such short 5-minute activities, but you can’t do them too often in a row.
Of course, there is still progress, but it is not proportional to the time spent. And I am also not particularly fond of the legendary gems. But it is known what the problems are there.”
The legendary gems are the main criticism of Diablo Immortal. You can get legendary gems for free, but paying significantly speeds up the grind. How the feature works and where you can get the gems, we explain in the video:
“Season 2 was disappointing” – But it got better afterwards
MeinMMO: How did you find the patch for Season 2 of Immortal?
Michael: “The Season 2 patch was disappointing. I bought the battle pass and took all the bonuses and the transmog set with me. However, I think I won’t buy a battle pass in the future. Nothing really changed with Season 2. Disappointing.”
In our article, we explain in detail what’s in the new battle pass of Season 2.
MeinMMO: What do you think of the new update with class change and co.?
Michael: “I really like the new patch. New quests were added that can be completed easily along with the daily tasks and that give additional rewards. I find it very good that you can obtain a legendary emblem once a week through the raids.
I think the class change is a great idea. However, I will not use it because I am very satisfied with my Necromancer. Moreover, I don’t want to farm all the set parts and legendaries again.”
In our tier list, you can find the best classes in Diablo Immortal. In the video, you can see gameplay from all the classes in the game:
MeinMMO: You have been a Shadow and an Immortal. Which gameplay is better and why?
Michael: “Both have their pros and cons. As an Immortal, you have more daily tasks to complete to get the maximum out of it, but defending the vault is really not fun. On the other hand, the Immortal transmog is super.
As a Shadow, you have the qualification matches in the Shadow War and the contracts. If you want to complete the maximum number of tasks every day, you can finish much faster as a Shadow.
I can’t say which is better or worse. But you always want to become an Immortal as a Shadow and remain so afterwards.”

MeinMMO: A tip for all players: What is the best farming method?
Michael: “Don’t let yourself be provoked by people who have never played Diablo Immortal and want to enlighten you about Pay2Win. Don’t let yourself be explained by people who watched Quinn and think they know the game.
Just play it and have fun – and if it’s not fun, turn it off. I find it impossible when I’m told the game is total trash because everything is P2W. Please, people, just play or be quiet!
My best farming method … Hmm. I don’t have any super secret trick. Just run the known route in the Realm of Damnation. In general, I believe farming in the open world is the best for both experience and drops. Except for the set parts that are only available in dungeons.”
MeinMMO: Thank you for the answers!
