The new shooter Halo Infinite is set to release for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. After first gameplay footage was shown in July from the singleplayer, new information about the multiplayer has now been released. This will be free and playable for everyone.
Will Halo Infinite be Free2Play? Halo Infinite is actually Halo 6, just under a different name. You will need to pay money to play the singleplayer and thus the campaign.
However, as Microsoft announced, the multiplayer of Halo Infinite will be free. This is a first for a Halo game and offers great advantages. The entry barrier for the shooter is significantly lowered and could bring many newcomers to the universe, which is already one of the most successful video game franchises ever.
The system strongly resembles Call of Duty: Warzone, the battle royale to Modern Warfare. Here too, the paywall has been removed, resulting in a huge success. Warzone already has over 50 million players.
Even though Halo Infinite is not a battle royale, the move to free multiplayer opens the door for many potential players.
New shooter with 120 FPS and Battle Pass?
What is known about the multiplayer? So far, there is little information about the multiplayer. It is said to:
- be Free2Play
- use equipment items like grappling hooks
- be able to offer 120 FPS on the new Xbox Series X
- not have real-money loot boxes
- Additionally, a blog post mentioned that due to the coronavirus, there might not be a multiplayer beta before the release (via Halowaypoint).
The Twitter user “Klobrille” also claimed before the announcement of the free multiplayer that the shooter will have a Battle Pass and “customization options” that are completely new for the Halo series.
Since half of his statements have already been confirmed, it is quite possible that he is right about the other two points as well:
Is there split-screen in Halo Infinite? Yes, the new shooter is also said to be playable in co-op with split-screen.
However, this could be counted as part of the singleplayer and therefore may not be included in the free version.
When will Halo Infinite be released? The release of the shooter is scheduled for Q4 2020, alongside the Xbox Series X.
