Players in GTA 5 Online suddenly saw a message telling them to subscribe to a star YouTuber. However, the message did not come from Rockstar, but from a hacker.
A strange situation recently occurred in the online world of Grand Theft Auto 5. Players suddenly received messages asking them to subscribe to the YouTuber PewDiePie.
The messages did not just appear in the chat, but were displayed prominently in the interface. Confusion spread in the community. It is now clear: Someone wanted to help the YouTuber.
Why should the GTA community help the YouTuber?
The background: On YouTube, the channels of PewDiePie and T-Series are currently competing for the most subscribers on the platform. In recent months, this subscriber battle has become more intense. The Swedish YouTuber PewDiePie could be dethroned from the top spot after being number 1 for years without serious competition.
PewDiePie’s closest rival is the Indian music label and film studio T-Series. They have recently caught up significantly in subscribers and are now close behind the Swedish YouTuber. Currently, PewDiePie has 74,440,465 subscribers, while T-Series has 74,040,987 subscribers (as of December 6, 10:30 AM). Only a few thousand subscriptions now separate the two channels.
This is what happened: This YouTube battle became even more bizarre when people hacked GTA 5 Online and sent this message to many players ingame:
NOTE: Subscribe to Pewdiepie on YouTube.
The message apparently came from people who wanted to help the YouTube channel stay on top. On Reddit, user droidBoy5 shared a photo of the message. He received it while playing a heist in GTA Online.
This is what the community says: Many other players who saw the message reported on Reddit and Twitter. They write: “Hey, I got that message yesterday in a random session too.” Others explain that they saw the prompt in the game and thought it was from Rockstar.
The extent of the fan craze: PewDiePie’s fans have also hacked printers to promote the channel. Some even took it a step further, starting a campaign, going on television, and renting billboards to encourage people to subscribe to PewDiePie’s YouTube channel.
This is how a modder cleverly spreads a message about the GTA 6 release
