Fans of the PlayStation hit Little Big Planet need to be strong right now: developer Sony has temporarily closed all servers after a toxic hacker attacked the game. Currently, the servers have been down for several days.
This is the current situation: The official Little Big Planet Twitter account posted on May 22 that their servers had to be temporarily shut down due to ongoing hacker attacks. The developers stated that they take these attacks very seriously, especially since they were aimed at community members.
Since the tweet on May 22, there has been no new information regarding the server situation. The servers remain inaccessible, and the hacker issue does not seem to be resolved yet.
Toxic player hacks the in-game messages
This has happened before: In March 2021, Little Big Planet faced similar issues. Back then, a player hacked the in-game messages and spread mostly homophobic messages to other players. It is not officially known what problem the hackers are causing this time, but the developers’ tweet suggests that players are being targeted again.
How are players reacting to this? There is a lot of understanding for the situation, but there is also sadness that they cannot play together at the moment. In the Little Big Planet subreddit, there is currently a live chat tracking the server status. Various players are exchanging information and hoping for a swift return to the servers.
The reddit user ThiYount posted an image of the loading screen and wrote: “Oh yes, the infinite loading screen. So wonderful!” (via reddit). Other players share memes to pass the time until the servers restart.
What is Little Big Planet anyway? The first part of Little Big Planet was released in 2008 exclusively for PlayStation models. In 2010, the second part of the series came out, followed by the third part in 2014. All games were developed by Sony and were released solely on Sony’s consoles.
Little Big Planet is a platform game where you control so-called Sackboys or Sackgirls that you can customize as you like. Moreover, in Little Big Planet, you can create your own worlds, characters, and buildings and share them with the community.
It remains to be seen when fans of Sackboys and Sackgirls can return to the game and whether this was the last hacker attack on the game. It is certainly alarming that these hacker attacks can halt the game for several days.
