The last patch brought zombies into the zombie MMO H1Z1. Up until then, they were too passive and too sparsely scattered.
With the last patch, the survival MMO H1Z1 finally seems to have introduced the element that had been painfully missing: zombies. This has been promised for a long time. Now it seems to have worked.
The “design element” Z was extremely important for the creators of the game during the concept phase. Because if players fight too much against each other, the zombies would come and be a regulating force from the outside. This would enrich a shooter, where the player-versus-player combat is in focus, with an important “Better be quiet” component and pull it out of the kill-on-sight swamp of the competition.
If, as mentioned in this article, massive battles were to take place between players, it would be such a spectacle and so loud that hordes of ravenous walkers would descend upon the players. Furthermore, the zombies should act as a kind of “guardians of the loot”: The dangerous areas with many zombies would also be the most rewarding.
However, at the early access stage, there were significant problems with the server hardware: The more players on a server, the “dumber” the zombies became, ended up just standing around lethargically and doing nothing. It didn’t kill the players, but rather the atmosphere.
Only during the server restart did the ex-humans become more active. Therefore, in recent weeks, the number of zombies had to be reduced; now it seems that they have it under control and increased the amount of vitamin Z in the H1Z1 mix significantly with the last patch on 27.3.
This significantly changes the game feeling of the game. One should be curious whether the zombies will become the salt in the design soup as they were once intended. In the Reddit forum, some people are finding it amusing that players are complaining about there now being clearly too many zombies in the zombie MMO.
