The battle royale shooter H1Z1 King of the Kill is said to have grown by 1000% since September 2016. The reason for this is not really clear even to those involved.
With H1Z1, they expected to grow, but not to this extent. They believe it is due to the genre, the battle royale shooter. It feels fresh and appeals to both new players and shooter veterans alike.
Development is now running in parallel: Live team and feature development
Currently, Daybreak Games is trying to handle the influx, scaling up server capacity to avoid queues.
They say this growth has caused “growing pains,” which they want to address by completely restructuring development. A live team is supposed to constantly work on the game while a development team focuses on new features.
This way, they aim to quickly release bug fixes and server updates, as well as to advance major feature developments.
H1Z1: Plans for the Future
For the future, Daybreak Games is planning among other things:
A new weapon for summer, which is supposed to have an “own role” – further details are not yet available
Shotguns are to become more reliable with the next content update, no longer as random as at present
Leaderboards for the game modes “Duos” and “Fives” are on the way
The air-drop mechanic is to be completely changed – players should be able to choose how valuable what falls from the sky is
