ArenaNet will work with ESL in the future to elevate the PvP of Guild Wars 2 to even more professional dimensions.
Two Seasons Before the World Championship
Since the announcement of the expansion Heart of Thorns for Guild Wars 2, the game has been experiencing a steady increase in new players, largely due to the free-to-play model. Especially in the PvP areas, ArenaNet’s MMORPG has seen such a massive increase that they have decided to take another step. In the future, ArenaNet will collaborate with ESL, the world’s largest eSport tournament organizer.
To kick off this partnership, there will be two seasons where all interested PvP players can compete for up to $400,000, the largest prize pool ever for a tournament in Guild Wars 2 – only after this will a world championship be held.
The cooperation with ESL also brings new benefits for players: The minimum age for participation will be lowered to 16 years, and regional restrictions will be largely removed. This opens up competitive PvP to an even broader audience of players and allows a larger number than ever before to fully commit to professional PvP with Heart of Thorns.
