The 13-year-old game Guild Wars shines in a new light. New graphics options, such as a borderless window mode and 8X MSAA anti-aliasing, provide a noticeably better look. We ask: Is it still worth playing Guild Wars 1 in 2018?
The predecessor to Guild Wars 2 was released in 2005 and is still played today. Although development has stopped, that does not prevent ArenaNet from patching. The last update was purely a graphics patch.
In addition to the borderless window mode and improved anti-aliasing, the level of detail has also been increased. Small details such as grass are now rendered even at a distance.
This is how the community reacts: The community is reacting exclusively positively. Guild Wars 1 already had good graphics before, which have now been further improved. For some, this is reason enough to revisit Guild Wars.
Is Guild Wars still worth it today?
Guild Wars plays differently than its successor: Aside from the same world, they have very few similarities. Guild Wars is instantiated almost everywhere. You only encounter other players in the outposts between two instances. You can choose to play in a small group or with NPC companions.

Guild Wars 1: Still a good MMO in 2018, especially for players with weak PCs
Good graphics and low system requirements: Despite its age, Guild Wars looks surprisingly good. The system requirements are minimal; even old computers can run the game.
You get a lot for little money: The Guild Wars Trilogy is already available for €25. It consists of three standalone titles: Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall. Additionally, you can purchase the separate expansion Eye of the North. With that, you have hundreds of hours of gameplay.
Unlock rewards in Guild Wars 2: The further your progress in the predecessor, the more rewards you receive in the sequel. The official reward calculator shows you what you will get and what requirements must be met.
