Barely implemented, Demon Hunters are already losing their funniest ability in World of Warcraft Dragonflight. Another case of “Fun Detected”?
With Dragonflight, all characters in World of Warcraft are getting extensive talent trees again, which are currently being tested in the alpha of the new expansion. In many cases, these are mainly ideas that are still being developed or even discarded. Just a few days ago, we reported that Demon Hunters will soon deal more damage by jumping – but just a few days later, Blizzard has already buried the idea.
What was that talent? It concerns the talent “Momentum” or in German “Eifer des Gefechts”. The talent ensures that the Demon Hunter deals a whopping 12% more damage for 6 seconds when using one of these abilities:
- Fel Rush
- The Hunt
- Vengeful Retreat
- Glide
You read that right, even Glide, meaning the short float after double jumping, was affected. This would have meant that Demon Hunters would have to jump and glide constantly in combat to maximize damage.
Something that Blizzard has immediately retracted.
Why was this cut again? Even though in some circles the “Fun Detected” meme is spreading again, where some believe that Blizzard quickly buries fun mechanics principle-wise, there is another reason here: the community’s feedback.
There are several reasons for this. The most important seems to be that “Eifer des Gefechts” is extremely polarizing. While some Demon Hunters love the talent, others absolutely cannot stand it. Some prefer to play without hopping around a lot or want to conserve their movement cooldowns for necessary movements and not as a DPS increase. However, if the talent can be activated permanently, it would be too good not to take – practically a must-have for every Demon Hunter.
Another argument against it is that you now have to map Glide to its own hotkey, so that gliding is activated after the first jump and not only after the second. This would create an additional, rather unnecessary button.
What do you think about this? Would you have liked to see more “bouncy DH action”? Or is it good that Blizzard is already hitting the brakes in the alpha?
