The universe of Star Wars now includes numerous video games, series, and movies, making it difficult for newcomers to keep up. There could have even been one more movie that Star Wars fans could have seen. However, the project has since been canceled.
What kind of movie would that have been? David S. Goyer, who was to work as a screenwriter on the film, revealed the project in an interview (via sites.libsyn.com). The work on it was kept secret for years, but it never progressed beyond the concept art and design phase.
By now, Guillermo del Toro has also commented on the project, as he was supposed to be involved in the film as well. According to the statements of both, the work took place about 4-6 years ago. So, the work coincided with the development of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Unfortunately, no further details are known about the film. Guillermo del Toro at least gave fans three letters as a hint about the movie on his X account: The project would have been associated with the letters “J” and “BB”.
What could be behind the letters? In the comments, fans are guessing three characters from Star Wars that could fit the description:
- Jar Jar Binks
- Jabba the Hutt
- BB-8
About three years before the start of the work, del Toro revealed in an interview that he would have been interested in a film featuring Jabba (via yahoo.com). He could have imagined making a movie in the style of “The Godfather,” focusing on the Star Wars antagonist.
In the films, Jabba’s backstory is not explored in detail, so del Toro would have had to adhere to the comic source material. However, with Hellboy, he has already proven that he could succeed in such an endeavor.
Are you familiar with Pan’s Labyrinth? It’s also a film by del Toro:
Who would have worked on the film? In the film, Guillermo del Toro was to act as director, while David S. Goyer would have served as screenwriter. Accordingly, an expert in detailed worlds in the horror and fantasy genre and a superhero veteran could have worked on the Star Wars film.
Guillermo del Toro is known for the following works:
- Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio
- Cronos
- Hellboy
- Pacific Rim
- Pans Labyrinth
- The Shape of Water (won the Oscar for Best Picture in 2017)
David S. Goyer, on the other hand, is known for his work on Batman Begins and Man of Steel. The combination of the two could have resulted in an exciting film.
Superhero fans can currently look forward to a sequel to Aquaman: Jason Momoa returns as King of Atlantis to the big screen – “The ray of hope for all DC fans”
